MD Helicopters Law Enforcement Award 2007

2007 at Orlando, Florida's HAI's 46th Annual  Salute To Excellence I was honored the MD Helicopters Law Enforcement Award.  I had just medically retired in Fall of 2005 and so this came as a total surprise.  Lisa Digiovanna submitted my name and I am very grateful to her.  My husband and I  while down in Florida visited our Aunt and Uncle to round out a nice trip.  Florida is GORGEOUS!!!  I hadn't seen this article and decided to post it for posterity.  It's part of my I LOVE ME stuff.  Haha.  You'll have to scroll down for a bit cause it's toward the end of the article.  Thank you to HAI for this honor.

The Nature of Japanese Gardens

The nature of Japanese garden art translates to life and would be beneficial to people with any kind of disorders of the body or mind.  My son-in-law has a koi pond and I can stare at it for an hour or so easily.  I come away so relaxed and my tremors minimalized.  There are special components of Japanese gardens I never knew about.  I came across this blog about the Nature of Japanese Gardens when I wanted to know more about Seijaku and what it meant.

Seijaku means stillness in the midst of activity.

Once the wings go on, they never come off whether they can be seen or not. It fuses to the soul through adversity, fear and adrenaline, and no one who has ever worn them with pride, integrity and guts can ever sleep through the 'call of the wild' that wafts through bedroom windows in the deep of the night. When a good flyer leaves the 'job' and retires, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder. We wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know. We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times. We know in the world of flying, there is a fellowship which lasts long after the flight suits are hung up in the back of the closet. We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every step and breath that remains in his life. We also know how the very bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is. Because we flew, we envy no man on earth. -Author Unknown

Balanace or Wobble Boards

http://www.turningonthelight.com/balance.html I just got a homemade wobbleboard from my father-in-law. YAY. He had trouble with plantar facitus and recovered through physical therapy. I had tried his board at his house one day and thought it would be beneficial for Parkinson's symptoms of poor balance and coordination not to mention stronger ankles. I found this article by accident and it is worth reading about other applications a wobbleboard might have on other things you might not have thought of. I know I never thought of these things. Good recovery and relaxation to you all out there with movement disabilities. -Monica
