Modern Family Flash Mob

My friend, Akiko, and fellow helicopter driver was doing the flashmob. She has helped coach me through Michael Jackson's Thriller dance routine. I'm still learning it. I do the Parkinsons version. It's good for improving moving coordination. I'm slow but what the hey.

This is a mockumentary but the plastic caught in the currents the size of Texas actually exists.

Fly not yet, 'tis just the hour / Fly Not Yet

Ive always loved this poem. I flew the majority of my shifts after dark and grew to love the peace and beauty of it. It was my favorite time of the day.

Fly not yet, 'tis just the hour / Fly Not Yet: "Thomas Moore, 1808, from Irish Melodies, vol. 1
Fly not yet, 'tis just the hour,
When pleasure, like the midnight flower
That scorns the eye of vulgar light,
Begins to bloom for sons of night,
And maids who love the moon.
'Twas but to bless these hours of shade
That beauty and the moon were made;
'Tis then their soft attractions glowing
Set the tides and goblets flowing.
Oh! stay, -- Oh! stay, --
Joy so seldom weaves a chain
Like this to-night, that oh, 'tis pain
To break its links so soon. 2. Fly not yet, the fount that play'd
In times of old through Ammon's shade,*
Though icy cold by day it ran,
Yet still, like souls of mirth, began
To burn when night was near.
And thus, should woman's heart and looks
At noon be cold as winter brooks,
Nor kindle till the night, returning,
Brings their genial hour for burning.
Oh! stay, -- Oh! stay, --
When did morning ever break,
And find such beaming eyes awake
As those that sparkle here?"

Dance 4 Oceans

Thrill The World

Thrill The World

Thrill The World

Last Sat. I had the crazy idea to take a free dance class taught by my friend Akiko at a local park. At first I watched and video tape it for home practice. The dance is to Michael Jackson's Thriller song. On Oct. 23 Thrill The World event will take place all over the globe where at 2 specific times people will dance the 6 minute routine. Check out http://www.thrilltheworld.com/events

Since it's a dead people zombie dance, and I sort of move like a stiff zombie anyway, and I love dancing, I thought why not? I wont participate for 2010 but maybe in 1011 I would be ok. I only guessing but since Ive been practicing and following the Thrill The World video clips, Ive noticed an increase it being able to walk be it in the house or on new and unfamiliar territory. I tried ballroom dancing but it sort of is not my cup of tea although it brought improvement also.

My friend Akiko uses this same dance for her group Dance for Oceans to bring awareness to the pollution which comes from plastics. http://dance4oceans.blogspot.com/

Recovery Update

Been on a new med since Mar. 2010 called Stalevo and also Paxil. The improvements are significant although cannot be expected to be perfect restoration to the way I used to move. Together with symptom management through daily different execises and food I can be grateful for these wonderful improvements. Im light hiking now, jumping, vacumning, doing food preparation more, visiting people, places and things again, driving my little red stick shift car again, dressing with almost normal effort,I can make the bed again, carry two objects at once, walk in a crowd of people without freezing, taking a shower with good balance, no holding on,shaving my legs in the shower again, geocaching, paralell parking, typing better, have less fatique, driving greater distances, reading a book with a steadier hand and the list goes on. In Mar 2010 I had to be wheelchaired from the Kaiser parking lot to the doctor's 4th story office. I hope for continued wellness. I have minor side effects from meds which are unusual but not uncomfortable. Timing and tweaking meds are ever evolving.

Disneyland Heliport

This site is so awesome. In 1955 Disneyland had some heliports. Take a look at what flew into them and some other cool history and photographs.

Animal Acres

Animal Acres is in Acton Calif just southwest of Palmdale off Hwy 14. I went there last sat with my friend Akiko and we enjoyed the rescue adoption non profit good work that is being done there. The turkeys in the video were great to be close to. Their heads turn bright red to blue based on mood.

Sinemet Sucks

Sinemet worked for almost 2 months when all of a sudden I got curley clenching toes on my left foot aka dystonia. I reduced the dose and its no where near as painful. Im ready to try a new drug. I still go to taichi and struggle, but feel so much better afterwards. For some Sinemet is a Godsend...not me folks.

Ballroom Dancing

Restarted my dance classes today at Hoag. Drove myself and had good energy for the return trip, which is improvement right there. Several months ago I wouldnt think of doing a 1.5 hr dance class and transport myself in the middle of the day ( usually a low point energy wise ). Been having incredible tightness in my top of the left foot, making walking tougher. But I managed the foxtrot ok but kind of had difficulty with the mechanics of it because of the smaller steps and choppy speed. The tango was incredibly more successful and my teacher was amazed. Being it is the more difficult of the two.

MEDS AND TAIJI UPDATE

Ive been on my happy pills ( Sinemet ) since Dec. 4 of 09. I see some difference in hand coordination ( way nicer handwriting, aa renewal of cross-stitching, ability and increased desire to prepare food that has to be cut up, etc. ). I have been more confident driving places, experiencing excellent coordination and strength handling the steering wheel. Ive made several solo trips for grocery shopping annd taiji class. Walking without toe curling,or without leaning forward is something that I have to pay attention to constantly. Im doing a 45 minute daily taiji dvd on my own and 2 times a week taiji classes. Yesterday, during class I almost started crying because I was able to walk in a straight line while executing the first four moves of the shadow form. I see increased overall well being but dont think its any one strategy that makes it possible. Im still believing in recovery of some degree, but it will take years. Improving balance and walking gait is my focus.
